How our social workers can support you

Social workers are qualified professionals who can support people, often during times of crisis. Our social workers have a deep understanding of human behaviour and development, life cycle stages, family and social networks, disability and health, including mental health. Our qualified social workers work with you to identify areas of your life that require change and connect you with specific support, for example, toward secure housing or family therapy.

All of our social workers are registered with AASW.

Flexible and compassionate support

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and so our services are designed to be as flexible as your needs. You can choose to meet with our social workers in the way that works best for you, whether that’s through home visits, telehealth appointments, or in-person sessions at our office.

At Footsteps, you are never alone on your journey. Our social workers will walk beside you, advocate for you, and empower you to build on your strengths, overcome barriers, and live a life of dignity, choice, and connection.

Walking beside you every step of the way

We are deeply committed to enhancing community wellbeing across Queensland. Rooted in social justice, inclusion, and compassion, our team of qualified social workers provide person-centred, strength-based support to individuals living with disabilities and psychological health challenges.

As social workers, we understand the importance of seeing each person as more than a diagnosis. We focus on your strengths, goals, and values, and respond calmly and practically to help you achieve the best possible outcomes. We believe that lasting change doesn’t come from one individual alone, it takes a village. That’s why we work collaboratively with you, your support network, and the broader community to create meaningful, sustainable progress.

When should I see a social worker?

There are a wide range of reasons you might want to see a social worker. Our social workers typically support families experiencing difficulties, including in relation to parenting, child or adult trauma, disability, unemployment, mental health and alcohol or other drugs addiction.

What services do social workers provide?

At this time, our team do not provide social work services under Medicare.

Our social work services can support you if, you:

Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) for Psychosocial Disabilities

Footsteps offers Functional Capacity Assessments to support individuals with psychosocial disabilities in accessing or continuing their NDIS supports. Our experienced Social Worker Therapists are qualified to conduct comprehensive assessments tailored to your individual needs.

Each assessment uses the most appropriate tools to provide accurate, evidence-based documentation for NDIS reviews, access requests, and plan reassessments. We take the time to understand your unique situation and gather the evidence required to reflect your daily challenges, support needs, and functional abilities.

Additional Psychosocial Support: Comprehensive Reports

In addition to FCAs, we also offer detailed Psychosocial Reports. These reports are often essential for NDIS access requests, plan reviews, Disability Support Pension (DSP) applications, and other support services that require formal documentation of your mental health and social functioning.

Our qualified social workers take a holistic and person-centred approach when preparing these reports. We work closely with you to understand your day-to-day experiences, history, strengths, and support needs. Each report is carefully written to reflect your unique circumstances, capturing not just clinical information, but the real-life impact of your psychosocial disability.

Whether you’re seeking ongoing NDIS support or applying for other forms of assistance, our psychosocial reports are designed to provide clear, professional evidence that supports your case and gives your voice the recognition it deserves.
