Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP Therapy)

Safe and Sound Protocol (also known as SSP Therapy) is a form of auditory therapy designed to reduce the symptoms and challenges associated with a wide range of conditions, supporting overall health and resiliency.

Footsteps’ delivers in-person Safe and Sound Protocol in Brisbane, Logan, Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Ipswich and surrounding areas, and virtually, Australia-wide.

What is Safe and Sound Protocol therapy?

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an innovative auditory therapy designed to help with regulating your nervous system and improving your ability to engage socially, think clearly, and feel emotionally balanced. Footsteps is a certified SSP provider, supporting clients of all ages to overcome challenges related to anxiety, trauma, attention, and social engagement.

Through the provision of audio therapy, the Safe and Sound Protocol improves emotional regulation by acting on the nervous system and suppressing some of the stressors that impact behaviour frequency and intensity. The program creates a safe space for both the brain and body to reset, and addresses many of the symptoms and conditions seen as key barriers to learning, engaging with others, and overall quality of life.

Footsteps offers SSP therapy virtually or in a comfortable environment of your choosing, including at our practices.

How Safe and Sound Protocol therapy works

Safe and Sound Protocol therapy includes five hours of listening intervention designed to support emotional regulation and sense of safety, and decrease auditory sensitivity and general stress. The therapy can be delivered as a stand-alone intervention or in conjunction with traditional therapy, counselling and/or behaviour support.

SSP therapy is delivered in three main phases:

In the first phase, we work with you to identify baseline measurements and understand your goals and the hurdles you are experiencing, to ensure the intervention focuses on what is important for you

During the second phase, clients participate in 5 hours of SSP audio therapy, delivered by our certified SSP Therapy practitioner over a minimum of 10 sessions

In the third phase, we deliver our final assessment with recommendations from our registered therapists to support you in maximising the benefits of the therapy
